How does blue light from electronics harm our eyes?

Blue light from digital devices has a huge effect on our circadian rhythm.

Letโ€™s start with this:

What is a circadian rhythm?

Your circadian rhythm is basically a 24-hour internal clock that is running in the background of your brain and cycles between sleepiness and alertness at regular intervals.

It’s also known as your sleep/wake cycle.

What does blue light have to do with it?

Blue light suppresses melatonin production for more than twice as long as other light wavelengths and alters circadian rhythms by twice the degree.

How can you protect yourself?

You can:

  • reduce the time you spend in front of screens
  • buy blue light blocking glasses
  • download a blue light filter

For me, reducing the time I spend in front of my PC is impossible. I work and study with my laptop.

The blue light blocking glasses didnโ€™t help me. I tried them, but they only increased the headaches I got.

SO I tried a blue light filter –ย Iris

It:

  • reduces theย blue light
  • controls theย PWM Flicker
  • controls theย brightness
  • reminds me to take aย breakย once in a while
